Today we celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who made a great impact in American history by bringing together our people across the nation to make necessary change. We have a lot that we can learn from MLK's character and ideology. Anything is possible with a dream and perseverance!

The 2018 Cultural Festival was an incredible experience! The theme was, "It's a Small World," because there were so many connections made throughout the planning, preparation, and day of the event. Here are some highlights:
Student Speaker: Ajdin Halilovic
Barberton Middle School 5th grader from Bosnia spoke about his journey to America and how his teachers and friends helped him learn English and acculturate to the American lifestyle. Ajdin said his STEM classes at Barberton will help him reach his dreams of going into computer programming or coding. This event brings together students, families, and teachers to celebrate cultural diversity at Barberton City Schools. We will have food and activities for all to enjoy!
Stories will also be shared about how our resilient students and featured speakers immigrated to America to achieve the American Dream. This year, Mr. Kaser’s STEM team will be featuring a virtual reality demo of Google Earth – which is an amazing opportunity to experience countries across the world without having to leave Barberton! I was fortunate to see my family’s home in a small village of Lebanon and it made my eyes water… it was a really neat experience! We will also have cooking and language lessons, and other great cultural activities for you to experience a day in our multilingual students’ lives. Please contact Miss Nemer if you have any questions: [email protected] |
