The 2016 BCS Cultural Festival was held on Thursday, April 28th. This event was well attended by students, their families, teachers, administrators, and community members. Families brought all sorts of different foods that represented their culture and some children dressed in their traditional clothing. The following countries were represented by our BCS community: Bosnia, France, Ghana, Lebanon, Mexico, Nicaragua, Philippines, Serbia, Thailand, Ukraine, Vietnam, and Yemen. Each speaker shared their moving story about immigrating to the United States, learning English as a Second Language, and the vast opportunities at Barberton City Schools. The Barberton City Schools Cultural Festival is coordinated by the district’s ESL Teacher, Randa Nemer. The tradition of this celebration started last year, and since it was a success, we decided to make it an annual event. This year, the English as a Second Language (ESL) program joined efforts with the World Language Club (Advisor: Rose Boyd); Manga, Anime, and Graphic Novel (MAG) Club (Advisor: Karen Smith); and 5th Grade Spanish Class (Teacher: Carrie Bengston).
